Dirty Manners Introduces: Our First Expedition — Mongolia

FieldnotesSep 1, 20251 min read

Dirty Manners isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about where it can take you. So we launched something new: The Dirty Manners Expedition.

The first adventure took place in mid-June, when co-founder Annelieke brought together nine friends, four 4x4s, and a plan to drive from Mongolia’s capital to the far western province of Bayan-Ölgii. No tour guides, no fixed itinerary, just ten days of pure, unpredictable travel.

Up to nine hours of driving each day meant tackling off-road tracks, river crossings, and long stretches of open steppe. Temperatures swung from 25°C sunshine to 1°C winds. Camps were set up beside lakes, in the shadow of mountains, and nights were spent in gers with nomadic families. Goats, yaks, wild horses, and the occasional camel shared the roads, while eagles and vultures circled overhead.

Days were filled with discovering ancient petroglyphs, hiking the Pontanin Glacier, and galloping horses across vast, open plains. Challenging, unpredictable, and unforgettable. This was the kind of adventure Dirty Manners was built for.

The next one’s on the horizon. The only question is — will you be there?
